Connect a 3-pin or 9-pin RS232 null-modem serial cable to the back panel of your set-top box.
Plug your USB-to-RS232 cable into your PC. Do not connect the set-top box yet. Right-click (or This PC ) and select Manage →right arrow Device Manager . Expand the Ports (COM & LPT) section.
