The show’s production team renovated and transformed sections of the abandoned prison's cell blocks, yard, and other facilities to create the claustrophobic and menacing atmosphere of Fox River. While Joliet Prison served as the primary location, other scenes were filmed in and around Chicago, such as at O'Hare International Airport and in Woodstock, Illinois.
