Working with a young boy named (Ty Simpkins), Tony investigates the Mandarin's attacks and uncovers a conspiracy. He discovers that the Mandarin is not a supernatural terrorist but a fictional persona created by a frustrated scientist named Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce). Killian runs a bio-tech think tank called AIM (Advanced Idea Mechanics), which is developing a regenerative formula known as Extremis , which grants its recipients superhuman strength and the ability to regenerate limbs but is highly unstable and causes them to explode.
Visually, the film culminates in the "House Party Protocol," where Tony summons his entire legion of suits to battle Killian’s Extremis soldiers.
